Every Stumped game runs on the same handful of box-score stats. If a term on a Pace card or a Decipher clue is unfamiliar, this is the plain-English version — and how we count it.

The counting stats

• Points (PTS) — every point a player scores, from free throws, two-point field goals and three-pointers combined.
• Rebounds (REB) — grabbing the ball after a missed shot. Offensive rebounds come off your own team's miss; defensive rebounds off the opponent's. We use the total of the two.
• Assists (AST) — a pass that leads directly to a teammate's made basket.
• Steals (STL) — taking the ball away from the offense cleanly, whether by picking off a pass or stripping a dribbler.
• Blocks (BLK) — deflecting an opponent's shot attempt before it starts coming down.
• Three-pointers (3PM) — field goals made from beyond the three-point line. We count makes, not attempts.
• Games (G) — the number of games a player has appeared in.
• Minutes (MIN) — total time on the floor.

Per game, per season, per career

The same stat can be quoted three ways, and Stumped uses all three depending on the game:

• Per-game average divides a total by games played — e.g. 18.4 points per game. Decipher shows a mystery player's real per-game averages.
• Season total is everything a player accumulates in a single season. Pace's This Season mode compares projected season totals.
• Career total adds up every season a player has logged. Pace's Career mode compares these across current and retired players.

Projected vs. actual

A projected number is our model's estimate of where a season total will finish — not what a player has done so far, and not a guarantee. Pace compares projections so the game stays fair in the middle of a season, before totals are complete. An actual number is a settled, official figure.
